Two of the papers in this issue address the question of development in Southeast Asia: at the micro level, the impact of the Yali Fall dams on the Sesan community in Cambodia, and at the larger level, the resistance effort against development in Thailand. The first, based on field work, tracks the effect of the dam not only on the livelihood of the people but also on the area’s forest cover—concerns that apply as well to other parts of the region.
